The Opportunity

Capturing culinary artistry through film and contemporary photography

Ronin Omakase offers more than dining—it delivers a chef-led, immersive culinary experience. The opportunity was to capture this experience in a way that reflects both the precision of Japanese omakase tradition and the atmosphere of a live, intimate event. This required balancing candid storytelling with highly controlled food photography.

Strategy

AX Creative approached the project with a focus on craft, texture, and authenticity.

By combining different photographic formats, we aimed to create a visual narrative that mirrors the layered experience of the restaurant—refined, dynamic, and deeply detailed.

Approach included

  • Event documentation and candid storytelling
  • Film photography for depth and texture
  • High-detail food photography
  • Multi-format capture across film and digital
Execution

The project was executed across three key components:

Event Documentation

Capturing the atmosphere, guests, and key moments of the anniversary celebration through candid photography.

Film Photography

Using medium format film (Mamiya RZ67) and 35mm film (Contax T2) to capture food and behind-the-scenes moments with a tactile, organic quality.

Digital Food Photography

Utilising mirrorless systems to highlight the intricate presentation and vibrant details of each dish. This combination allowed us to present Ronin Omakase from multiple perspectives—blending precision, imperfection, and artistry into one cohesive story.
